One of my favorite fall activities is mushroom picking, it's really popular both in Sweden, where I currently live, and Italy, where I am from. This sparked the idea of building a mobile app to keep track of your secret mushroom picking spots, so you can build a nice catalogue and revisit them whenever you think new mushrooms are spawning! I also wanted to try building a mobile app. Of course you can use a generic Map app, but they're not really tailored to this use case and I think it's more fun to build things.
I tried to keep it very simple:
- you can log spots on the map (selecting mushroom or berry species)
- you get automatically the weather info for the pinned spot
- you can optionally enrich the log with notes and pictures
- you can also log how many kg you harvested (Should I build a leaderboard?)
I vibe coded this app, used Flutter and Supabase. Integrated RevenueCat one-time voluntary purchase to support the app's development, just for fun.
The App Store review process went better than expected, I got some comments on the first submission and got the app approved second try. But there was a lot of weird admin stuff to get your developer account ready...
It's available on the app store for free here. But it's only in italian for now...
